Since 2017, the Committee for Campus Inclusion Catalyst Award honors individuals, groups, teams, clubs, organizations/units and programs that have catalyzed change by fostering and promoting diversity and inclusion. From 1996 to 2016, committee members selected recipients for an earlier iteration of this award called the Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion.

Honorees are selected based on their excelling in four areas including inclusion, innovation, initiative and impact on community. To complete a nomination please submit through the portal below using specific examples in accordance with our recommended word length and criteria rubric. Only Arizona State University faculty, staff or students are eligible. Nomination may include community partnerships.

Questions

  1. Please provide an overview of how the work of the nominee supported, fostered or created value towards inclusion and diversity for the university and/or the public. Describe their accomplishments far beyond the expectations, duties and responsibilities of their current role (Recommended 300-500 words)
  2. Inclusion: How does the nominee demonstrate action-based empathy and give voice to people far beyond those of other groups, individuals, programs or systems? Submit 100 to 200 words with Please provide specific examples. (Recommended minimum length 100 to 200 words)
  3. Innovation: How does the nominee advance inclusion through a new initiative or experience far beyond those of other groups, individuals, programs or systems? Please provide specific examples. (Recommended minimum length 100-200 words).
  4. Initiative: How does the nominee take action far beyond the expectations of their current role as a group or individual or within a program or system? Please provide specific examples. (Recommended minimum length 100-200 words).
  5. Impact: How does the nominee create value to the university and/or the public (may include community partnerships with ASU). Does that value from a group, individual, program or system catalyze change far beyond the ASU charter’s mission and goals for a new American university? Please provide specific examples. (Recommended minimum length 100-200 words).
  6. Please provide us with a one-paragraph summary of why this nominee should be recognized with a CCI Catalyst Award. The summary may be presented at the awards ceremony. (Recommended length 50-100 words)

Special notes about nominations statements:

  • Nomination statements should be detailed, fully developed, and include specific examples. The CCI Board may not be familiar with the nominee or their contributions, therefore, it is important that this information is presented in the nomination statement.
  • It is recommended that nominators prepare their nomination statements to the noted questions in advance on a Word document and then paste their responses into the online form. This will allow the opportunity to make any necessary edits.

The CCI Award is a one-time honor; therefore, previous CCI Award Recipients are ineligible to receive the award a second time.

  • Representatives serving on CCI are eligible to be nominated.
  • Members of the CCI Executive Committee are not eligible to be nominated for the award.
  • Self-nominations are not eligible for the award.
  • Award categories are utilized for evaluation purposes only. The number of honors awarded each year will be determined by the CCI Executive Board. As such, multiple awards may be given in across one category. The CCI Board also reserves the right to not award in all categories.
  • Only completed nomination will be considered.
  • Supporting documentation may be requested for final nominees. Nominees may be contacted by the CCI with a request for additional information.

Awards criteria and examples:

Inclusion

Demonstrations empathy and gives voice to people. Example: Demonstrates action-based empathy through programs, systems, group or individual performance far beyond expectations.

Innovation

Advances inclusion through a new initiative or experience. Example: Advances inclusion far beyond those of other groups, individuals or institutions.

Initiative

Takes action beyond expectations of current role. Example: Takes action far beyond the expectations of current role.

Impact on community

Creates value to the university and/or the public (may include community partnerships). Example: Creates value to the community and catalyzes change far beyond the charter's mission and goals for a new American university.
