About

The Center for the Study of Race and Democracy in partnership with the Provost’s Office of Inclusion and Community Engagement will inaugurate an annual Social Cohesion Dialogue. Two critically acclaimed authors Carol Anderson (‘White Rage: The Unspoken Truth of Our Racial Divide’) and Sarah Smarsh (‘Heartland: A Memoir of Working Hard and Being Broke in the Richest Country on Earth’) will engage in a dialogue on critical issues of race, class and gender.

In preparation, we invite ASU communities to participate in one of a series of reading and discussion groups co-facilitated by ASU faculty and university leaders.

Each group will meet once for two hours at a selected time and place in January or February. Groups will be hosted across ASU and all participants will be provided with books.

Participants will have the choice to read one or both books as part of their participation.

The reading and discussion groups are free and open to ASU faculty, staff and students.

Reading groups are limited, so register today to confirm your spot and start reading!

If you have questions about the program, please contact Karen Engler-Weber, Program Director for the Office of the University Provost at Karen.Engler@asu.edu
