Faculty members and leaders from within the ASU community share their stories of reflection, lessons learned, and what drives their passion for advocating for equity.
Nancy Gonzales is the executive vice president and university provost of Arizona State University. Prior to this role, Professor Gonzales was the dean of natural sciences in The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences where the six academic units she managed produced exciting educational innovations, substantial growth in enrollment, pioneering fundamental science, and research on challenges in human health, energy, sustainability, materials science and space exploration, among others.
As a Foundation Professor in the Department of Psychology, she conducted groundbreaking research on culturally informed models of human health and development with the goal of developing strategies to reduce health disparities in vulnerable communities. She also served as director of the REACH Institute, an interdisciplinary center of excellence dedicated to the implementation and dissemination of evidence-based interventions in settings such as primary health care, schools, family courts, and community mental health agencies to improve mental and physical health outcomes.
Anguiano is the executive vice president of the Learning Enterprise, serving learners of all ages and backgrounds to inspire curiosity, wonder, and hope, in alignment with the charter to advance excellence in education, broaden access, and have a meaningful societal impact in a rapidly evolving, technology-fueled world.
Helitzer is a professor and dean of the College of Health Solutions. Prior to joining ASU, she was the founding dean of the College of Population Health at the University of New Mexico, where she led the development and implementation of the nation's first undergraduate degree in population health.
Greenwood is the vice dean for educational initiatives, working across academic units to strengthen online programming and transform learning experiences. In this role, she oversees Instructional Design and New Media, Learning Experience, and Student Success among others to improve and equalize degree completion.
McKenna is the vice dean of strategic advancement for the Ira A. Fulton Schools of Engineering and professor of engineering. Her research focuses on entrepreneurial thinking in faculty mentorship, curricular innovations, and adaptive expertise in organizational design and culture in higher education engineering structures.
Thompson is a Regents Professor of English and the Director of the Arizona Center for Medieval and Renaissance Studies. In 2021, she was inducted into the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
Chattopadhyay is a regents professor and Ira A. Fulton chair professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering in the School for Engineering of Matter, Transport and Energy. She also serves as the director of the Adaptive Intelligent Materials and Systems Center and has been the Principal Investigator on numerous grants.
Wutich is a presidents professor and director for the Center for Global Health and leads National Science Foundation Action for Water Equity, a participatory convergence study that develops collaborative water solutions with water-insecure U.S. communities. She also directs the Global Ethnohydrology Study of water management in twenty countries.
Aganaba is an assistant professor of space and society at the School for the Future of Innovation in Society, an affiliate faculty with the Interplanetary Initiative, and a senior global futures scientist. Timiebi currently serves on the Space Generation Advisory Council supporting the United Nations program on space applications.
